The experience a student has in a session depends almost entirely on the person teaching them. We take that seriously.
By joining Hello Tutor, you are agreeing to uphold the principles set out in this document. As a tutor, you hold a position of trust. Students and their families are counting on you not just for academic support, but for encouragement, patience, and genuine care.
Arrive prepared for each session, ideally a few minutes early so you are ready to start when your student is. Punctuality sets the tone for the entire lesson.
For online sessions, join from a tidy, quiet space, and make sure your device, camera, microphone, and internet connection are working properly beforehand. For home sessions, arrive on time, dressed appropriately, and ready to teach in the space agreed with the family.
Keep your language professional and appropriate at all times, whether during sessions or in messages through the platform. Be responsive to students, parents, and the Hello Tutor team.
Make sure your availability, qualifications, and personal details on the platform are accurate and current. Notify us promptly if anything changes that could affect your suitability to tutor.
Your role is to guide, encourage, and build real understanding. Tailor your approach to each student's needs and always prioritise their wellbeing.
After sessions, provide constructive and thoughtful feedback that helps students and parents understand progress and next steps.
Do not complete assignments, assessments, or any graded work on behalf of students. Your job is to support their learning, not to do it for them.
Maintain clear boundaries with students and their families at all times. Do not show favouritism or make promises you cannot keep.
All communication with students and parents must take place through the Hello Tutor platform. Do not share your personal contact details or ask for theirs, and do not move conversations to personal phone numbers, social media, or any other channel outside of Hello Tutor.
Do not arrange or attempt to meet students outside of scheduled Hello Tutor sessions, whether online or in person.
Hello Tutor welcomes students from all backgrounds and we expect our tutors to reflect that. Treat every student, parent, and fellow tutor with respect and professionalism. Discriminatory, abusive, threatening, or sexually inappropriate behaviour of any kind will not be tolerated.
Do not belittle, patronise, or speak dismissively to students. Every learner deserves to feel safe, valued, and supported.
If you notice anything during a session that raises a concern about a student's wellbeing or safety, report it to the Hello Tutor team straight away. Do not ignore concerns, however small they may seem. We would always rather hear about something that turns out to be nothing than have a genuine concern go unreported.
Do not share any information about a student, including their academic performance or personal circumstances, with anyone outside of Hello Tutor without explicit consent.
Tutors are not permitted to offer or provide private tutoring to students they have been connected with through Hello Tutor outside of the platform. This applies for the duration of your time with us and beyond.
We hope every tutor joins Hello Tutor because they genuinely care about making a difference for students. Where this Code of Conduct is not followed, Hello Tutor reserves the right to suspend or permanently remove a tutor from the platform. In serious cases, matters will be referred to the relevant authorities.
Thank you for the care and commitment you bring to your students. It is what makes Hello Tutor work.
